Texas A&M didn’t leave much room for Missouri State to breathe. In its season opener at Kyle Field, the No. 8 Aggies dominated from start to finish, shutting out the Bears 50-0 while holding them to just 67 yards of total offense.
The Aggies wasted little time establishing control Saturday night. Senior quarterback Marcel Reed connected with fifth-year wide receiver Isaiah Horton for a 15-yard touchdown on the Aggies’ opening drive, giving Texas A&M an early 7-0 advantage and setting the tone for an offense that would eventually produce 472 total yards.
Missouri State struggled to generate any momentum against an Aggie defense that consistently forced the Bears into difficult situations. The Bears' offense finished the night with only 67 total yards, while Texas A&M forced multiple turnovers and kept Missouri State from finding the end zone throughout the game.
The Aggies added to their lead in the second quarter after Missouri State muffed a punt and illegally kicked the ball through the back of the end zone, resulting in a safety. David Olano later converted a 28-yard field goal with 3:22 remaining in the half before Reed found junior wide receiver Mario Craver for a 12-yard touchdown in the final minute of the second quarter. Texas A&M entered halftime with a 19-0 lead.
While the offense continued to build momentum, the defensive performance remained the defining storyline. Graduate defensive end Ryan Henderson made his Texas A&M debut with two tackles for loss, a sack and a forced fumble, while fifth-year defensive end Anto Saka and sophomore defensive tackle DJ Sanders each recovered a fumble.
Sophomore linebacker Noah Mikhail led the Aggies with a career-high seven tackles, helping Texas A&M limit Missouri State's opportunities and keep the Bears from establishing any consistent offensive rhythm.
The Aggies continued to pull away after halftime. Junior defensive back and returner Terry Bussey added a 10-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter before sophomore running back Jamarion Morrow scored on a 2-yard rush with 2:09 remaining in the period. Texas A&M carried a 33-0 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Reed finished his night completing 21 of 30 passes for 233 yards and two touchdowns while adding 20 rushing yards. The Aggie quarterback also helped distribute the ball across the offense, with 10 different players recording a reception.
Horton finished with four receptions for 76 yards and a touchdown, while Craver recorded five catches for 41 yards and a score. On the ground, senior running back Rueben Owens II led Texas A&M with 77 yards on 17 carries.
With the outcome no longer in doubt, Texas A&M turned to its younger players in the fourth quarter. Freshman running back Carsyn Baker scored a 12-yard touchdown on his first collegiate rushing attempt, while quarterback Brady Hart later connected with Aaron Gregory for a 15-yard touchdown. Freshman kicker Asher Murray capped the scoring with his first career field goal, a 47-yarder that pushed the Aggies' lead to 50-0.
The final whistle officially closed out Texas A&M's first game of the 2026 season, but the performance offered an early glimpse at what the Aggies could look like on both sides of the ball. The offense produced points from multiple players and the defense never allowed Missouri State to establish a foothold.
For head coach Mike Elko, the shutout also marked the second shutout of his Texas A&M tenure, giving the Aggies an emphatic opening statement as they begin the 2026 season.
Texas A&M will now turn its attention toward a much different challenge. The Aggies return to Kyle Field next Saturday to face Arizona State, another team coming off a successful recent season and a program that will provide an early test for Elko's squad.
The 50-0 victory gave Texas A&M exactly what it wanted from its season opener: a win, a dominant defensive performance and an opportunity to build momentum heading into its next challenge.
