COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Grey clouds covered the sky over Olsen Field this Valentine’s Day to set the scene for game two of opening weekend. Picking up right where they left off the Aggies cruised to another dominant win over Tennessee Tech with a final score of 23 - 7.

The first inning is what set the tone for the entire game. Starting off strong with Junior pitcher Weston Moss who secured two strikeouts in the top of the inning. Once it was the Aggies turn on offense there would be no looking back. Junior first baseman Gavin Grahovac got a single as the lead off hitter which opened the floodgates to score. Junior center fielder Caden Sorrell stepped up next and hit a homerun to put the Aggies up 2-0.

The events that followed would end up becoming a pitching nightmare for Tennessee Tech. After getting the first two outs pretty easily Freshman pitcher Cooper Casteel struggled to close out the inning. With an rbi double by Freshman shortstop Boston Kellner to put the Aggies up 5-0, Casteel was clearly rattled and the 12th man wasn’t making it any easier for him. Only 34 pitches in, he was relieved by Freshman Ty Bennett who was the first of many changes for the golden eagles at the mound. Bennett didn't fare much better, back to back batters to bring home another run. He struggled to find the strike zone and it quickly became 9-0 before the inning finally came to a close.

Tennessee Tech was able to get a few hitters on base in the third and get themselves on the board with an rbi double from Nash Crowell and one from Jorsixt Jimenez to put the score at 10-2.

Both teams were able to add to their totals in the innings that followed including a homerun by Jimenez in the top of the fifth but it was the Aggies that poured on the offensive fire power in the bottom of the inning. A total of eight rbi’s which included a homerun by Senior outfielder Jake Duer who was responsible for three of those eight runs scored to put the Aggies at 19-4.

Tennessee Tech was able to bring in a run in the sixth and a few wild pitches in the bottom of the inning were able to contribute to the Aggies widening their margin to 23-5. Tech was able to get two more runs in the top of the seventh but were ultimately mercy ruled at the end of the game to bring the final score to 23-7.

The Aggies will face Tennessee Tech in the final game of the series on Sunday February 15th, at 12 p.m.
