Texas A&M Dominates Arizona State with a Commanding 48-20 Victory

Final Score: 48-20

On a beautiful morning during week 2, Texas A&M faced off against Arizona State University.

The 12th man showed up for the red, white, and blue game, honoring the victims of 9/11 on the

25th anniversary of the tragedy. The aggies dominated the sun devils with a final score of 48-20

The Aggies scored early due to a muffed punt from the ASU special teams. Arizona State

quickly responded with a touchdown of their own, tying the score up to 7-7. Despite the

touchdown, the aggie offense was lackluster, only reaching 14 total offence yards in the first

quarter. The teams then traded scores for the rest of the half to leave the score 17-10 at

halftime. Although A&M was leading at half, they had significantly less offensive yards than

ASU.

Although Marcel Reed threw an interception to start the second half, the Aggies started to run

away with the game with multiple scores. Most of these coming from the defense with 2

pick-sixes and a fumble recovery. Multiple offensive scores were traded by both teams, leading

to the final score of 48-20.

A student’s thoughts on the game:

It was incredible to see the red, white, and blue game in person, which is now one of my favorite

football traditions. Seeing the coordination of the Aggie fans to show up in the right color in

remembrance of the tragedy that happened 25 years ago was inspiring to see. The atmosphere

of Kyle Field was electric despite the early kickoff, showing the true power of the 12th man.

The 2025 home games were characterized by narrow wins, even when heavily favored to win. It

is exciting to see a commanding victory against a strong nonconference opponent. It was great

to see multiple interceptions from the aggie defense, especially considering that they only had 3

interceptions for the entirety of the 2025 season. Winning the turnover battle should make it

much easier for the offence to perform against tougher opponents.

The offense’s performance is worrying, however. Despite the blowout victory, the Aggies had

over a hundred less offense yards than the Sun Devils at the end of the game. This is partially

due to the large number of turnovers from ASU, giving A&M good field position frequently. The

offense still looked weak, with the biggest worry being on Marcel Reed’s passing in the low to

mid-range. Although he only had one interception, there were multiple passes that would have

been picks against stronger opponents.

Overall A&M looks promising, and with some offensive improvements, could be a serious threat

in the SEC. The Aggies begin conference play at home against Kentucky on September 19th

with a 2:30pm kickoff.
